This year, did you get together and watch the Super Bowl? Liam Krueger said, “I like the Super Bowl because football is my favorite sport. My dad played football for Notre Dame.” The Super Bowl is a fun day, but do you know its history? The Super Bowl started as a result of the merger between the American Football League and the National Football League to become the National Football League (NFL). In 1966, it was announced that the two leagues were planning to unite in 1970. The two leagues, which are now the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC), would play a championship game every year. The Super Bowl would determine a football champion. Roman numerals are used to describe how many times the Super Bowl has been played. They include numbers IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, and XLIII (9, 10, 13, 14, 40, and 43.) Out of all the NFL teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowls with six wins! There are many more Super Bowls to come. Who will win next?
