On Friday, November 18, the eighth grade visited an Equine Center, which

owned and trained many horses. The purpose of the field trip was to give

the eighth grade exercises that needed teamwork to complete, which

brought them together as a class. The first topic they discussed was what

makes a good team and what obstacles stand in the way. They also

considered traits that can help the team, such as optimism. Once they got

outside, the class met four of the horses, including one named Tance, who

had an immediate connection with Lucas Gorham. Their task was to guide a

horse through obstacles without touching them. They tried with three horses and were able to get two of them through the

obstacles. After the activity, they came in for a reflection, to point out where they went wrong and share what they learned.

“I liked how our class was able to work well as a team,” said Lucas Gorham, “and I found out our strengths and weaknesses

as a class.” Many of them were sad to leave the horses behind, but they were assured when Mrs. Widmann announced that

they will go again at the end of the year.
