Martin Luther King Jr. was born on the 15th ofJanuary in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a Baptist minister, an activist, and a civil rights leader. An activist is a person who works hard for a cause or something he or she strongly believes in. He is known for helping the Civil Rights Movement. Civil rights are rights that protect your freedom from violations by social organizations, governments, and people. Dr. King received many awards in his lifetime, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Nobel Peace Prize. MLK Day was established in 1986 as a federal holiday. MartinLuther King Jr. has had many streets renamed in his honor, all over the UnitedStates. I asked Mrs. Widmann, how she celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.She responded, that she celebrates Dr. King daily. “I honor and celebrate Dr. King when I vote, when I eat at restaurants, when I sit anywhere I want on a plane, bus or train, and when I live and work in a community where I am judged solely by the ‘content of my character.’”
