On October 4th we had the blessing of the animals.  This is when Father Ed stands by in the car line to bless the animals.  Students who cannot bring their animals may bring a picture.  At mass, Father Ed told us the reason why we do the blessing of the animals.  It is to commemorate St. Francis.  October 4 is his feast day and he is the patron saint of animals.  St. Francis loved animals, started the Franciscan order and is an amazing follower of God.  I had my pets blessed for two years now.  The first year, I physically brought my pet turtles for Father Ed to bless, but this year I just brought a picture because it was hard to get my turtles to stay put in the portable tank.  They always try to escape.  I think this is one of the best traditions in Good Shepherd. Did you bring your pet? If so tell us about it. Send a Letter to the Editor.
